This policy begins applying to visitors and customers as soon as they visit Productor’s website, or websites that Productor owns, for the first time.
Why this policy exists?
This data protection policy ensures Productor
- Complies with data protection law and follows good practice
- Protects the rights of staff, customers and partners
- Is transparent about how it stores and processes individuals personal data
- Protects itself from the risk of a data breach
The General Data Protection Regulation
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy. The GDPR aims primarily to give control back to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.
What is “Personal Data”?
“Personal data” is defined in both the Directive and the GDPR as any information relating to a person who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that person. So in many cases online identifiers including IP address, cookies and so forth will now be regarded as personal data if they can be (or are capable of being) without undue effort linked back to the data subject.
Productor Chrome Extension – Data Practices
This section specifically describes how the Productor browser extension collects, uses, stores, and shares data. By installing and using the extension, you agree to the practices described below.
What data the extension accesses
The extension reads website content from Amazon and Merch by Amazon pages you visit. This includes product listings, sales data, pricing information, and related page content. This data is used solely to provide the extension’s core features: product management, sales overview, research tools, and automated updates. It is not used for any other purpose.
The extension does not access, collect, or transmit any of the following: personally identifiable information, health information, financial or payment information, authentication credentials, personal communications, browser history, or user activity outside of Amazon and Merch by Amazon pages.
Local storage
Product data, sales data, and your extension settings are stored locally on your device using Chrome’s built-in storage APIs. This data never leaves your device except when explicitly transmitted to third-party services you have opted into (see below). You can clear all locally stored data by uninstalling the extension or using the extension’s built-in reset/clear options.
Background activity
The extension runs periodic background tasks to fetch updated sales data, product information, and currency exchange rates. These requests are made directly to Amazon, Merch by Amazon, and Productor’s own servers. No personal data is included in these requests beyond what is required to authenticate your session with those platforms.
Third-party services
Productor integrates with the following third-party services to provide specific features. Each service is only contacted when the relevant feature is in use:
- USPTO (TESS), EUIPO, and DPMA – Trademark lookup services. Listing text is submitted in chunks (not as complete listings) only when you explicitly use the trademark check feature.
- DeepL and Google Translate – Translation services. Text is submitted only when you explicitly use the translation feature. Which service is used depends on your configuration.
- European Central Bank (ECB) – Currency exchange rates are fetched periodically to display your sales in your local currency. No personal data is transmitted.
- Google Trends and Google Services – Used to provide trend data and keyword suggestions. Queries are submitted anonymously.
- Amazon – Used for keyword suggestions and product research features.
- Merch Informer API – Used to provide Sales Rank and Price History data, but only if you are logged into Merch Informer through Productor.
Productor does not sell, rent, or share the data processed through these services with any other third parties, outside of what is necessary to deliver the features described above.
Network request modification
The extension modifies certain outgoing request headers when communicating with Amazon’s advertising API. This is done solely to ensure Amazon can correctly identify the origin of API calls made by the extension, as required by Amazon’s API terms. No personal data is added to or extracted from these headers beyond what Amazon requires for this purpose.
Notifications
The extension may display browser notifications to alert you about sales, expiring products, or other events relevant to your account. Notification content is generated locally from your stored data and is not transmitted externally.
Data retention
Data stored locally by the extension is retained until you clear it or uninstall the extension. Productor does not retain copies of your product or sales data on its servers beyond what is required to deliver real-time features during active use.
Your rights and data removal
You may request deletion of any data Productor holds about you by contacting us at productorapps@gmail.com. You can remove all locally stored extension data at any time by uninstalling the extension from Chrome.
Chrome/Edge Extensions
What information is being stored, or accessed?
Product Data: Your product data is downloaded and stored locally when you load Productor. This allows the extension to load product info faster since it doesn’t have to download the whole list of products every time you log in and so to provide you a faster, searchable list of your products.
Login/Username: An encrypted version of your username is stored locally. This is used a form of id to help us identify the cached data for different accounts, e.g. if you have more than one Merch account.
Sales Data: Your sales data is downloaded and stored locally when you load Productor. This allows the extension to load sales info faster since it doesn’t have to download the whole history of your sales every time you log in.
Settings: Your preferences in the settings section are saved in Chrome’s/Edge’s local memory.
Productor itself does not handle payments and does not have access to your payment information.
Where is my information being stored?
Your information is stored in Google Chrome’s/Microsoft Edge’s memory which is accessible via the WebExtensions API.
This memory is provided by the browser and is divided into 2 categories – local memory and sync memory. Data stored in local memory remains on that specific computer. Data stored in sync memory is “synchronised” across browsers on all your computers. The synchronisation is encrypted and handled by Google Chrome.
Productor does not have access to your computer’s file system, i.e. we cannot access your files or store anything outside of the memory provided by Chrome.
Can I delete all information stored by Productor?
Yes. You can simply remove the extension or app and all data saved by Productor will be deleted.
Data accessible through WebExtensions API
WebExtension APIs used within Chrome Extensions/Edge Extensions have fine-grained permission levels that are enforced by the Web Browser, restricting information that our extension has access to within your Browser. The Productor extensions can only access specific information that you have explicitly granted permission for. We can not and do not track your browsing history.
What services/sub-processors do you use?
Productor for Merch by Amazon
For translation we use Google Translate secured communication via HTTPs. When using trademark checks, we protect your listings by just submitting small chunks – extracted words/longtails to the services. If you log in to Merch Informer via Productor, only researched ASINs (Products) are submitted to the API to retrieve Price and Sales Rank (BSR) history.
Productor for Spreadshirt
When using trademark checks, we protect your listings by just submitting small chunks – extracted words/longtails to the services.
Productor for Merch by Amazon Autopilot
No APIs
What happens to my data when I remove/delete the extension?
When you remove the extension, all your data which is stored locally is deleted. Productor does not transfer, process or store any of your data on it’s own servers.
Is my data secure?
Locally: Data which is stored locally can only be accessed if someone has access to your computer, and only using special software to view Google Chrome’s/Microsoft Edge’s local memory. Even in the extreme case that this happens, your personal data (e.g. login information) is saved in an encrypted format, rendering it useless for anyone who does manage to access it.
In Transit: All data communication in transit from your browser to external servers (e.g. www.gumroad.com) is secured using HTTPS. Google Chrome’s/Microsoft Edge’s sync function is handled by the browser.
Auto-login and Session Management
The Productor browser extension offers an optional auto-login feature designed to improve user convenience when accessing Merch by Amazon.
If you choose to enable this feature and manually enter your login credentials, the extension will securely store your credentials locally in your browser using industry-standard AES encryption. This information is never transmitted to Productor’s servers or any third-party services and remains entirely on your device.
When enabled, the extension may use these locally stored credentials to automatically re-authenticate your session with Merch by Amazon if your session expires or becomes inactive. The purpose of this functionality is solely to maintain continuity of your workflow and reduce the need for repeated manual logins.
You are in full control of this feature. You can disable auto-login at any time, which will prevent any further automatic authentication attempts. You may also remove stored credentials by clearing the extension’s data or uninstalling the extension.
Productor does not access, view, or store your login credentials externally, and all authentication actions are performed locally within your browser environment.
